Federal Budget 2018
What Else Could Trump's Border Wall Budget Buy?
In the Trump administration's 2018 Federal Budget request, there are 2.6 billion dollars set aside for "high-priority tactical infrastructure and border security technology, including funding to plan, design, and construct a physical wall along the southern border as directed by the President’s January 25, 2017 Executive Order." As the deadline for budget authorization approaches, along with the threat of a government shutdown, Trump has withdrawn this demand for border wall funding; at least for now.
In our infographic, we have looked at alternative ways the government could now spend this money. President Trump could for example help support 131,255 veteran caregivers for one year; currently the VA has funding for around 36,600. Infrastructure could perhaps be given an additional boost, with the money paying for the resurfacing of over two thousand miles of four-lane road. Of course, he could also just buy 1,390 Tomahawk missiles for the navy.
