Medical facilities are common targets in Syria

On Tuesday, a chemical weapon attack in Syria claimed at least 100 lives. Hospitals treating the injured were themselves targeted in air srikes following the atrocity in Idlib province. Attacks on medical personnel and facilities are nothing new in Syria. According to data from Physicians for Human Rights, 783 medical workers lost their lives in the conflict between April 2011 and October 2016. As can be seen from the following infographic, attacks on medical facilities have occurred frequently, reaching a peak of 122 in 2015.
