Article 50

Brits Are Losing Faith in Referendums

Regardless of the result, the referendum given to the people on the future of the UK's EU membership was monumental. Following in the footsteps of the Scottish independence referendum, asking the nation to again make a fundamentally important decision for the future of the country was bold. As our infographic shows though, affording the people such powers was generally well received. In 2012, a YouGov survey showed that most people would prefer major political decisions to be decided via referendum. Jumping forward to the final days before triggering Article 50, though, the picture is somewhat different.
