Microsoft Posts Record Sales as Profit Slips

There were little surprises when Microsoft reported its second quarter results on Thursday. The results were pretty much in line with analyst expectations as the company posted record sales along with a slight decline of profits.

Microsoft’s revenue increased 3 percent to $21.5 billion thanks to a strong showing of Microsoft’s Windows Division, which saw a 24 percent increase in sales over last year’s December quarter. Profits declined 4 percent, marking the fifth straight quarter of declining profits for Microsoft.

Having released the radically redesigned Windows 8 operating system in October along with an own line of tablet computers, this year is going to be very important for Microsoft, as the company tries to make its mark in the mobile computing market.
