U.S. Military Spending Outstrips These Countries Combined

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, in 2020 U.S. defense spending outstripped that of China, India, Russia, UK, Saudi Arabia, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, Italy and Australia combined. When it comes to spending as a share of own GDP, the United States' huge output naturally brings them down the rankings somewhat. Of the top spenders relative to the size of their economy, Saudi Arabia is way ahead with an estimated 8.4 percent. This compares to the 3.7 percent of the U.S. and is far ahead of the second highest share calculated by SIPRI - that of Algeria at 6.7 percent.
