George Orwell’s Dystopian Classic "1984" is Back on the Agenda

George Orwell’s book "1984" is one of the dystopian classics depicting life under an all-controlling, all-knowing authoritarian regime. The book, which was first published in 1950, has made it back on to the bestseller list in the United States. Observers link this to the 45th President of the United States Donald Trump assuming office on January 20, 2017.

Another classic closer to home is Sinclair Lewis' "It Can’t Happen Here". Written in 1935, the novel tells the story of fictitious Senator Berzelius "Buzz" Windrip, a charismatic and power-hungry politician, who wins the presidential election on a populist platform, promising to restore the country to prosperity and greatness. It’s also among the novels selling well these days.
