Connected car services
Mapping the World in Real Time
One of the major advantages of being connected to the internet while driving a car is not having to worry about being surprised by traffic anymore. Having a virtual assistant keep you on the fastest route under consideration of real-time traffic information is a real time-saver and a huge step forward from the GPS systems of the early days.
Not everyone has the chance to enjoy the perks of real-time traffic updates though. According to data compiled by Statista’s Digital Market Outlook team, 74 countries in the world are covered by at least one of the world’s leading providers of real-time traffic information, with Google Maps offering the largest individual coverage (61 countries). Users won’t have trouble finding real-time traffic updates in North America or Western Europe. However, things look very different in parts of Latin America and practically all across Africa.
While today, many drivers access services such as Google Maps using their smartphones, the connected car of the future will have the ability to access real-time traffic information on board.
