HIV

Nearly two-thirds of new European HIV cases are in Russia

Just one country is accounting for nearly two thirds of all new HIV cases in Europe: Russia. The country is experiencing a HIV epidemic and over a million Russians already live with the virus. That's expected to nearly double within the next ten years. According to the European Centre for Disease Control, 153,407 people across Europe were newly diagnosed with HIV in 2015. 98,177 of them were in Russia. That's far more than second placed Ukraine (12,985) and the UK (6,078).
