National Parks

America's Most Popular National Parks

Over the course of the Thanksgiving weekend, millions of Americans are going to head out for a shopping splurge as soon as they have finished digesting all of their turkey, sweet potato and cranberry sauce. However, others will be keen on avoiding the shops and head to the great outdoors.

The country's national parks are more popular than ever with over 300 million people visiting National Park Service sites across the U.S. in 2015. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee and North Carolina attracts the most vistors of any national park in the country, according to 538. Almost 10 million people visited the park and UNESCO World Heritage Site annually since 1996, twice as many as visited the Grand Canyon. That's partly thanks to its proximity to Atlanta, Charlotte and Nashville as well as the free parking on offer.
