Americans' Reactions To Trump's Victory
Americans were left with a wide range of emotions to digest in the wake of the most contentious presidential election in recent memory. According to Gallup, 84 percent of Americans accept Trump as the country's legitimate president, though 15 percent do not. Even though the acceptance rate is high, demonstrations continued across major U.S. cities throughout the weekend.
In terms of reactions to last Tuesday's events, most people (75 percent) are surprised. Given Trump's xenophobic rhetoric throughout his run for the White House as well as his intention to round up millions of illegal immigrants, fear (42 percent), devastation (34 percent) and anger (29 percent) are also common reactions, Many people are still positive with 40 percent saying they are relieved, 35 percent saying they are excited and 32 percent feeling proud.
