Making for grim reading, one in five women say they have been abused by a current or former partner - one in seven experiencing severe abusive behaviour. Although the subject is often automatically associated with female victims, 6 percent of men are said to suffer extreme domestic abuse, with around 2,000 asking for help from the victim service 'Amen' each year.
