World Obesity Day
UK's Most Deprived Boys At Highest Risk Of Obesity
In conjunction with World Obesity Day, the Obesity Health Alliance (OHA) released a report revealing that the most deprived 5 to 11 year olds in the UK are far more likely to be obese than their more privileged counterparts. Worse still, while obesity among boys from the least deprived families is expected to fall to 2020, rates for the most deprived boys are forecast to rise from 27 percent to a staggering 43 percent. The OHA primarily lays the blame on sugar consumption. Children in general receive an average of 13 percent of their daily calorie intake from sugar - 8 percentage points above the recommended maximum.
