Story of the Olympics

Bolt at Full Throttle

In what is very likely to be his last Olympic games, Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt achieved the 'triple triple' - gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m events at three Olympics. This infographic, using analysis by Sports Illustrated, takes a look at just how fast Bolt is, and has been.

Bolt's average speed was at its highest over 100 meters in London in 2012. At 23.23 miles per hour, the Jamaican powered to a new Olympic record of 9.63 seconds. Although his speed slowed by the time Rio came around, his dominance was still never in doubt as he went on to add three more gold medals to his blemish-free Olympic record.
