Are Rich Countries Less Welcoming To Refugees?
The top six richest countries host only 9 percent of the world's refugees, according to a report from Oxfam which was released earlier this week. Together, Germany, the United States, France, China, the United Kingdom and Japan account for nearly 60 percent of the global economy but they host a mere 2.1 million refugees between them.
By contrast, the top six countries hosting refugees worldwide account for only 2 percent of global GDP. Jordan, Turkey, the Palestinian territories, Pakistan, Lebanon and South Africa host half of the world's refugees and asylum seekers, approximately 11.9 million people.
