India Tops Global Junk Mail Ranking
As a regular user of email, chances are some Nigerian prince has promised you part of his family fortune; you’ve been subject to countless risk-free business proposals and you are regularly informed about the newest penis enlargement technology.
But where do all these emails come from?
A lot of them are coming from India, according to IT security and data protection firm Sophos. In the second quarter of 2012, India topped Sophos’ ranking of the world’s largest spam-relaying countries for the second time with a global share of 11.4%. More broadly, the lion’s share of global spam mails is relayed in Asia (49.7%), with Europe a distant second (26.4%).
According to Sophos, spam emails make up 45 to 50% of corporate email. Bearing in mind that these numbers come from a company that earns money selling anti-spam solutions, we all know how annoying, if not harmful, these emails can be.
