Social Networks Provide Little Threat To Search Engines
As had been rumoured repeatedly in recent years, social networks could well provide serious competition to search engines for advertising dollars in the near future. Statista’s recently published Digital Marketing Outlook makes a direct comparison possible and it shows that social networks are still no real threat to Google and other search engines. Great Britain is a good example. This year, social media’s share of online advertising revenue will amount to 14 percent compared to 53 percent for search engines. However, calculations by analysts at Statista show that the overall balance of power will still remain in the search engine’s favor for the next 5 years at least.
