FIFA's Corruption Also Has A Human Cost

The corruption scandal that has engulfed FIFA is proving disastrous for the organization's image. Key sponsors are now threatening to reassess their relationship with soccer's world governing body as investigations continue into the "rampant" bribery plaguing it.

The story isn't just about money, however. It is also vitally important to mention the deaths that are going to be associated with the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. The Washington Post compared the deaths of migrant workers in Qatar since December 2010 with other recent sporting events to gauge the severity of the situation there.

If current trends continue, 4,000 migrant workers will die before 2022 in a country with no soccer culture, questionable human rights and a climate where playing the sport is nearly physically impossible.
