Who’s Got a Samsung Phone?

Samsung has released its improved flip phones, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, which both incorporate AI elements. The release comes following competitor Apple’s launch of AI features under the name Apple Intelligence.

As the following chart shows, Samsung continues to have strong loyalty in its home turf of South Korea. There, two in three smartphone users said that they used one of the brand’s phones as their primary smartphone in 2023-24, according to a survey by Statista Consumer Insights. Samsung is popular in South Africa too, with 45 percent of respondents saying the same. This was by far the most popular choice there, followed by Huawei and Apple, at 19 percent and 18 percent, respectively. In Brazil, Samsung was also the most popular choice (42 percent), followed by Motorola (19 percent) and Apple in third place (17 percent).

In the United States, although Apple was the clear favorite at 51 percent, Samsung was the most significant competitor at 28 percent, with Motorola trailing behind at 6 percent and Google at 5 percent. Meanwhile in India, competition was slightly more evenly split, with the key players led by Samsung (25 percent), followed by Apple (14 percent), Xiaomi/Mi (14 percent), realme (10 percent) and then vivo and Oppo each with 8 percent.

Samsung fares less well in China, where Apple accounts for 35 percent of primary smartphones, Huawei by 32 percent, then other Chinese brands accounted for a further 30 percent.
