How Much Of Your Paycheck Does Gas Guzzle?
How much of your paycheck does gas guzzle? If you live in South Africa, you're going to have the most pain at the pumps. Despite a gallon of gas costing $4.65 per gallon, South Africans spend over 5 percent of their annual income filling up. Cyprus and Mexico come second and third with 3.6 and 3.4 percent respectively.
Norway has the highest gas prices in the world by a considerable distance at a whopping $9.26 per gallon but a Norwegian only spends 0.66 percent of his/her annual income at the gas station. What about the United States? About 2.3 percent of an American's average annual income is spent on gasoline, 12th overall. Generally, gas prices have fallen steadily around the world, 7.2 percent in the past six months alone, due to an unprecedented oil boom in North America.
