Google Considers Moving Production To India
Google Pixels Aren't So Popular in India Yet
Alphabet Inc.’s Google is looking into moving some of its Pixel production facilities from China to India, according to reports from Bloomberg. The news agency reveals that Google has already reached out to Lava International Ltd as well as Dixon Technologies India and Foxconn Technology Group’s Indian unit Bharat FIH about the move. Apple has already widened its supplier base to now include India, seeking to diversify following the supply chain issues that stemmed from Covid-19 related restrictions in China, as well as uncertain relations between Washington and Beijing.
The following chart takes a look at just how popular Google smartphone devices are in India. According to a survey by Statista Consumer Insights, only four percent of urban respondents said they owned the brand of smartphone. Of course, four percent of a country with 1.4 billion people is still a significant sum. Brands such as Samsung and Xiaomi/Mi performed far better though, with 26 percent and 17 percent usage, respectively.
Smartphone sales tend to excel on home turf. Recent data from Statista Consumer Insights found that in South Korea, the Samsung was again the phone of choice, while in the United States Apple reigns king and Huawei is most popular in China.
