World No-Tobacco Day

Most Countries to See Drop in Smoking (Except Indonesia)

The world is predicted to see a slow shift away from smoking over the coming years, according to analysts from Statista Consumer Insights. That is, except for Indonesia, which is projected to see an additional million people take up smoking by 2030.

Most of the countries on the chart are forecast to see a decrease of between two to four million smokers between 2021 and 2030. In the United States, figures are set to fall from 67 million to 63 million by the end of the decade.

According to the World Health Organization, over 80 percent of the world’s 1.3 billion tobacco users live in low- and middle-income countries. Tobacco use kills more than 8 million people a year, including 1.2 million deaths from exposure to second-hand smoke.
