Streaming Has Taken the Home Video Market by Storm

Streaming has taken the home video market by storm and will continue to outgrow other market segments in the future. According to Statista Market Insights, global revenue from subscription-based streaming almost tripled since 2017, topping $80 billion in 2022. Physical format sales declined by almost 30 percent over the same period, while digital pay-per-view and electronic sell-through (i.e. paid downloads) have grown at a much lower level and pace than streaming.

With more and more streaming services available to consumers, Statista expects revenues to grow even further in the next five years. Global streaming revenues are expected to grow at an average rate of 11 percent for the next five years, reaching $137 billion in 2027.
