European accommodation sector: Mapping past 6 months against future expectations
2022 has given the accommodation industry a lot to be optimistic about. Travel and tourism trends are showing signs of returning to the pre-pandemic status quo and the rules and protocols around curbing the spread of the virus have relaxed. However, the market downturn of 2020 has understandably influenced mixed feelings about the present and future status of the accommodation sector. In a 2022 survey of nine European countries and the Nordic region, the European Accommodation Barometer has mapped the sentiments of accommodation providers. When asked about their opinion on their accommodation business’ development now, and in the future, there was a wide spectrum of responses. The Portuguese accommodations had the most positive view of the present and future development of the industry while France, Germany, and Greece were less enthusiastic about their current development and are therefore perhaps more wary of the future.
The European Accommodation Barometer 2022 presents the findings of a survey of European accommodation industry professionals commissioned by Booking.com and conducted by Statista. Feel free to download the eBook here if you are interested.
