Europe's independent accommodations struggle to keep up with hotel chains
European hotels are slowly undergoing chainification as chain hotels are gaining ground. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of total rooms in hotel chains had enjoyed mild yet steady growth, in comparison to independently-run accommodations, which had barely grown. The pandemic hit both chains and independent hotels hard, although chain hotels were able to recover better than independent hotels.
