Royal Family
Succession
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, her son and successor King Charles III will be officially proclaimed King at the Accession Council on Saturday. Having been just three years old when his mother became Queen following the death of her father King George VI in 1952, Charles has been preparing for the throne his entire life. At age 73, King Charles III became the oldest person to assume the British throne, with his oldest son William now next in line.
Following the birth of William and Kate’s three children George, Charlotte and Louis, Prince Harry, William’s younger brother, slipped to fifth position in the line of succession, making it very unlikely for him to become king, even before he and his wife stepped back as “senior” members of the royal family in January 2020.
