Motorsport Fans: Where is on Pole Position?
Austrians are particularly enthusiastic about motor sports. This is suggested by a survey conducted as part of the Statista Global Consumer Survey. For this survey, sports fans worldwide were asked which sport they actively follow. Around 36 percent of the more than 900 respondents in Austria said they were true motorsport enthusiasts. This is hardly surprising, given that Niki Lauda, one of the greatest racing legends, and Red Bull, one of the biggest motorsport sponsors, come from the Alpine country.
Sports fans from Finland have a similar amount of gasoline in their blood - around a third of respondents from the home country of Räikkönen, Bottas and Häkkinen are fans of motorized racing. Among Spanish respondents, the figure is 29 percent, and in Germany, 23 percent of respondents are "petrolheads". According to the survey data, motor racing is even the third most popular sport in Germany behind soccer and handball.
This weekend, motorsport fans around the world will once again get their money's worth. In addition to the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Azerbaijan in Baku, the legendary 24-hour race in Le Mans, France, will also be taking place. Despite this annual must-see in their own country, however, only around 13 percent of respondents in France said they follow motorsport.
