Is Boris Johnson Incompetent?

It's a question being asked with increasing frequency. Is the prime minister of the United Kingdom incompetent? For a majority of the public, the answer is clear - yes, he is. According to a survey series by YouGov, 57 percent said that Boris Johnson is incompetent on 1 November 2021 - a joint record high since the question was first asked back in July 2019 (when it was 56 percent). That said, he went on to win a general election that December nevertheless - arguably due to incompetence from Labour.

Perhaps inevitable for a politician whose trademark has always quite purposefully been buffoonery, under the increased scrutiny and responsibility attached to the position of prime minister, Johnson has often and consistently found himself in hot water for one reason or another. As this infographic shows, while Johnson enjoyed a wave of positivity during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, the general perception of him has almost always been more leaning towards 'incompetent' than it has 'competent', at least during the surveyed period.
