Apple Watch Leads U.S. Market
The new Apple Watch is hitting store shelves today. According to a survey by 9to5Mac, the Series 7 of the popular smartwatch was the most anticipated product from the September Apple event, which could translate into decent sales of their new model for Apple. The new series features a larger screen – enabling a QWERTY keyboard for the first time –, includes a new chip and charges faster.
While the new watch is also more durable, dust-resistant and available in more color options, news and review website CNet sums it up as “a slightly better smartwatch than last year’s”, since major changes or new features are missing from the update. The Verge has a similar take on the new product but goes a step further. "If everything is right with your current Apple Watch, you don't need a new one," writes the tech website.
But maybe Apple doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel to have their new smartwatch appeal to consumers. According to the Statista Global Consumer Survey, the product is the market leader in the U.S. for smartwatches and fitness trackers. Almost half of consumers who said they owned one of these two products said they had an Apple Watch, followed by Fitbit and Samsung. Garmin, LG and Huawei hold smaller shares of the market. Overall, 39 percent of all U.S. respondents between the ages of 18 and 64 said they owned a smartwatch or fitness tracker.
