Most Americans Support Airstrikes in Iraq

According to a survey carried out by the Pew Research Center and USA Today, most Americans approve of airstrikes against Islamic militants in northern Iraq. President Obama authorized the strikes on August 7th along with airdrops of aid. In total, 54 percent of Americans approve of military action there with 31 percent disapproving and 15 percent stating they don't know. Support is strongest among Republicans - 71 percent of them approve of the airstrikes and just 14 percent disapprove. Among Democrats, support falls to 54 percent while 35 percent disapprove.
