Indian Salary Increases Rebound

Salary increases in India are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels in 2022, a newly released survey among around 1,350 companies has found.

Employees can expect to get paid 9.4 percent more on average next year, about as much as in 2019, the release by Aon India said according to an article in the Hindustan Times. This year and last, salary increases slumped because of the coronavirus pandemic to just 8.8 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively.

Looking further back, a general slowdown of the rapidly developing Indian economy also slowed down salary increases over time. Between 2010 and 2016, they were still in the double digits, even reaching 12.6 percent in 2011.

Technology, professional services and e-commerce workers could still enjoy double digit wage growth in 2022, as their sectors continued to be the most lucrative for sales increases. Hospitality, energy and engineering design were on the opposite end of the spectrum, according to Aon, seeing below-average salary hikes.
