The Most Addictive Video Game Genres

As part of the 2021 update to the Statista's Global Consumer Survey, respondents were asked how many hours per week they spend playing video games, if at all. Of those in the U.S. that chose the maximum option available - 20 hours or more - the most common game genres they said they play all have one thing in common: they're (massively) multiplayer.

Anyone who has experienced the competitively tense environment of online multiplayer gaming can probably testify to its addictive 'one more round' nature. Throughout the pandemic too, the collaborative social possibilities are also a pull, providing a way for people to connect without seeing each other in-person.
