Euro 2020 Hopes and Fears
June 11 marks the start of Euro 2020, a tournament originally scheduled for last year that will be held in ten European cities and in Baku. England will be playing their group games at Wembley, where up to 22,500 spectators will be able to watch the matches. Expectations of the team, however, are rather low, as the European Football Benchmark surveyed by Statista and Sportfive shows: According to this, only 28 percent of people surveyed in England believe that their own national team will win the tournament. The most unpopular result in this country would be a victory for the 'old enemy', Germany. Self-confidence is particularly high among the French, and rightly so. But that also seems to apply to the level of self-loathing within the country, as a look at the chart shows.
