NSA Monitoring Practices Face Stiff Opposition

Revelations about American electronic surveillance practices have caused heated debates over what measures are acceptable in the war against terrorism. Now that the scope of the NSA's monitoring of unsuspicious citizens and government officials from around the world has become apparent, many people agree that the U.S. surveillance measures are over the line.

According to an extensive survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in 44 countries, the vast majority of respondents is opposed to monitoring regular citizens or government officials from their respective countries. However, people aren't against electronic surveillance per se. Almost two thirds of global respondents think that monitoring of terrorist suspects is indeed acceptable.
