The last time Microsoft's online business division was profitable, was in 2005. Since then the online services section was constantly in the red. Last quarter's loss was remarkably dramatic. The reason being, that the purchase of online advertising specialist aQuantive in 2007 led to a depreciation of 6.2 billion U.S. dollars.
