COVAX Initiative
Which Countries Are Still Waiting for COVAX Doses?
Deliveries by Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access – or COVAX – have reached the milestone of 1 billion doses shipped. Considering the current goal set for Q1 of 2022, the initiative does not have much time to celebrate, however. It is trying to nearly double the shipments it made during all of 2021 within the next three months.
Around half of the total doses ever allocated through the initiative therefore remain to be shipped until the end of March. Yet, some countries have much more of their allotment still outstanding, while other have fared better.
Some African countries, like South Africa or Morocco are still waiting for large swaths of their allotted vaccines. Populous countries in Asia - some of which have received big allotments - are also waiting for huge amounts of life-saving vaccines, among them Indonesia and Pakistan.
Nigeria, Colombia and Ukraine are among the countries faring about average in COVAX deliveries, while the Philippines or Rwanda have had their allotments filled to a larger degree so far.
