Mixed Feelings for Biden's China Plans

Along with President Biden’s large goals of providing COVID-19 relief, another major problem for his administration to solve this year will be how to handle increasingly tense relations with China. While the economies of China and the U.S. are heavily dependent on each other, growing competition among international corporations along with human rights violations are prompting many in the U.S. to call for Biden to continue the tough stance taken by former President Trump. New survey data shows Americans have mixed feelings on whether they trust Biden to deal with China effectively during his term as president.

A new survey from Pew Research Center shows 46 percent of U.S. adults either have little or no confidence in Biden’s abilities to handle China effectively. Another 34 percent are somewhat confident Biden will handle the relationship well, while just 19 percent said they are very confident he’ll handle the situation effectively.
