Majority Support Path to Citizenship

The new Biden administration has promised to explore progressive policies directed at undocumented immigrants in the U.S. Perhaps one of the president’s boldest plans is to implement a path to citizenship for the roughly 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country, giving those without documentation the option to stay and remain employed while entering the process of citizenship. New survey data shows how a majority of Americans are in favor of this path to citizenship – a significant uptick from just four years ago.

In new survey data conducted by Morning Consult and Politico, 57 percent of U.S. voters said they’re in favor of Biden’s plan for a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in the country. That’s an increase of 11 percentage points from April of 2017. Democrats and Independents made up the bulk of those in favor of a path to citizenship, with 72 percent and 52 percent, respectively. Republicans were noticeably less keen on the policy, with just 39 percent in favor of a path to citizenship – still a two percent increase from 2017.
