Where Belief in the Climate Emergency Is Strongest

The biggest opinion poll about climate change ever published has found that two-thirds of people across the world consider the issue "a global emergency". Carried out by the UN Development Programme together with Oxford University, the research polled 1.2 million people in 50 countries between October and December 2020.

The share of the public who believe in the climate emergency is highest in the United Kingdom and Italy at 81 percent, closely follwed by Japan, France and Germany. In the United States, the share agreeing was lower but still a substantial majority at 65 percent. When it comes to solutions, the conservation of forests and land emerged on top globally, followed by the use of renewable energy.
