2020 Election
Yes We Kanye
Shortly after the last U.S. presidential election in 2016, hip-hop musician and producer Kanye West publicly expressed visions of his candidacy in 2020. What many people around the world considered a PR gag or even megalomania has now become reality in some U.S. states.
Nationwide, over 60,000 people voted for the rapper. This chart shows, based on data provided by the Washington Post, in which U.S. states he received the largest share of the votes. West received the highest percentages in Idaho, Oklahoma, Utah and Vermont with around 0.4 percent of the total votes. In eight other states he received 0.2 to 0.3 percent of the vote. In some of these he was even the top candidate behind Trump and Biden. In the state of Tennessee, "Yeezy" has his largest electorate - over 10,000 voters have put their cross for Kanye here.
The musician's participation in this year's presidential election was of course not very successful. Undeterred by his defeat, however, West announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on Twitter just one day later.
