2020 Election

Americans Expect Difficulties at the Polls

Despite polls showing former Vice President Joe Biden leading incumbent President Donald Trump by double-digits in the presidential election race, Americans are gearing up for perhaps the most contentious election in recent years. With questions surrounding whether Trump will accept a potential loss to having groups of people watch voters at polling locations, new data shows voters from both parties are expecting it to be difficult to vote this year.

In new survey data from the Pew Research Center, 49 percent of U.S. voters said they expect voting to be difficult for this upcoming Nov. 3 election. That’s an astronomical increase from survey answers given in 2018, when just 15 percent of voters said the same.

Both Democrats and Republicans were much more likely to say this election will be difficult to vote for compared to the one in 2018. 35 percent of Republicans said it’ll be difficult voting while 60 percent of Democrats said it will be difficult – a 25-point and 43-point difference from 2018, respectively.
