2020 Presidential Election
Americans Have Mixed Feelings About the Election Outcome
With the U.S. presidential election drawing closer and closer, there’s polls and surveys abound, many of which asking the same questions over and over again. With that in mind, our partners at NayaDaya, experts in emotional and behavioral intelligence, conducted a survey looking into the emotional side of the election battle.
Respondents were presented with a range of emotions, asked to pick the one that best describes their feelings when thinking about either of the candidates and their respective running mates being elected in November.
“For U.S. voters the election is mostly about avoiding an undesirable result, not about being emotionally uplifted by the candidates,” says Marcello Mortillaro, Ph.D and Senior Scientist, Partner of NayaDaya. The emotion most widely evoked by the thought of a Biden win for example is relief, “a positive emotion with a low engaging impact,” Mortillaro explains.
As the following chart shows, the thought of Biden/Harris winning the election evokes more positive emotions overall than a Trump/Pence reelection does. To find out more the survey and dive deeper into the results, please refer to our partners at NayaDaya.
