Media bias

Most People Worried About News Bias for Others

Misinformation, disinformation and bias in media are worrying and confusing voters ahead of the November presidential election. A new survey shows that a majority of Americans are more worried about how media bias is affecting others rather than how it might be affecting them.

In a new poll from Gallup, 69 percent of respondents said they’re more concerned about how media bias is affecting others compared to just 29 percent who said they’re more concerned about how media bias is affecting them personally.

The poll showed a positive correlation between young voters and having more of a concern with media bias in others, with 73 percent of those aged 18-29 and 72 percent of those aged 30-44 saying they’re more concerned about others. Surprisingly, there was a similar positive correlation between those with a college degree, with 73 percent of those college-educated and 77 percent of those with a postgraduate degree saying they’re more concerned about others when it comes to media bias. Demographically, white males were also more likely to be concerned more about the effect of media bias on others.
