Millions in the UK 'Eat Out to Help Out'

Since the registration period opened in July, 84,000 restaurant premises have signed up to the HMRC's Eat Out to Help Out Scheme - an initiative intended to get people back into restaurants around the UK post-lockdown. Each diner at participating establishments can receive 50 percent off their bill (up to £10), which the businesses can then claim back from the government.

As this infographic shows, 64 million people, or 'covers', were submitted as of 23 August, amounting to a total of £336 million claimed. The offer expired at the end of August with many restaurant owners calling for an extension to the scheme which, according to OpenTable data, led on one of their analysed days to a 106 percent increase in customers when compared to last year.
