Videosharing
From TikTok to Taka Tak? The Future of Videosharing in India
After TikTok’s forceful exodus from India, domestic alternatives are vying to scoop up the users the popular videosharing app left behind. Yet, U.S. and Singaporean competitors are most likely to take the biggest slice of the Indian videosharing cake, according to a survey by YouGov.
62 percent of urban Indians said they had tried or would likely try the new Reels feature by Instagram, which is owned by U.S. company Facebook – the highest in the survey. The second most popular app for videosharing was Cheez out of Singapore, followed by homegrown option Roposo with 54 percent saying they were using it or would like to try.
India-based TikTok alternatives (including apps with videosharing features built in) are in fact numerous and include MoJ, Gana Hotshot, Taka Tak, Josh and Mitron. Some, like Gana Hotshot, are trying to reel in Indian customers by offering a variety or local music and soundtracks.
