New Zealand Reaches 0 Active COVID Cases

COVID-19 cases in many countries around the world are declining, leading to the reopening of businesses and a slow return to normal life. One country may be leading the charge and setting the best example for how to eradicate the virus.

According to the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker map, New Zealand has officially recorded 0 active cases of COVID-19 in their country. This comes after nearly two weeks of no new daily cases, and others infected with the virus recovering fairly quickly. So far, New Zealand is the first country to completely get rid of COVID-19.

New Zealand officially lifted all COVID-19 restrictions on June 8 due to the current eradication of the virus. Health experts in the country point to lockdowns as drastically slowing the spread of the virus and lowering the infection rate by over 80 percent.

Other countries around the world have come exceptionally close to having no active cases of COVID-19. South Korea has nearly gotten rid of the virus, with only around 1,000 active cases left in the country. Japan is another country where active cases are radically dropping, with just over 1,000 active cases left.
