The U.S. Dwarfs Russia and China in Military Expenditure

Even though China and Russia have drastically increased their military expenditure over the course of the past decade, they come nowhere near matching the United States. Despite America's withdrawal from Iraq in late 2011, military expenditure still amounted to $640 billion in 2013.

China is the world’s second highest military spender with $188 billion, trailing the United States by a long distance. Russia comes third, having spent $87.8 billion on its military in 2013. In a bid to save money, the Pentagon's proposed 2015 budget could significantly downsize the U.S. Army to pre-World War II levels.
