Health and Video Chat Apps Top Indian Download Charts
During the previous week, health and video chat apps have been the most downloaded in India as residents are adjusting to quarantine measures after the coronavirus outbreak. In the Android and Apple stores combined, the government contact tracing app Aarogya Setu ("bridge to healthcare") pulled the most downloads by far, despite being criticized for its lack of data privacy provisions.
Videochat and conference app Zoom ranked second with a combined 4.2 million downloads over the past week, as Indians are working from home in unprecedented numbers. The app also exhibited the highest growth in downloads over the previous months, hitting 12.3 million monthly downloads, up from nearly none before. It has also not been free from controversy - quite the contrary.
Bored Indians trying to keep themselves busy also downloaded many apps, with Ludo King, Carrom Pool and Tik Tok being in high demand.
Other winners according to Priori Data were video sharing app UVideo (2.1 million weekly downloads) and Google Pay (2.2 million downloads).
