Economic Impact of COVID-19

More Americans Feel Financial Impact of Coronavirus Pandemic

More Americans are feeling the personal financial impact of the coronavirus crisis – but half of U.S. salaried employees also said they had not experienced any change. This is according to a Gallup survey among U.S. part-time and full-time employees 18 years and older.

Due to the number of people still unaffected by the crisis, savings are expected to increase in the U.S. (at least momentarily), with a net 15 percent of Americans saying they would save more due to the pandemic, according to a Boston Consulting Group survey as of March 16.

In the Gallup survey carried out March 13-16, 21 percent of employees said they had felt a grave impact on their financial situation due to the COVID-19 outbreak. That had risen to 24 percent in a follow-up survey conducted March 20-23. The number of employees who felt a minor impact rose from 23 percent to 28 percent in the same time frame.
