Is Coronavirus A Major Public Health Threat?

Most Americans view the novel coronavirus outbreak as a major or moderate threat to public health, according to data compiled by YouGov. Nearly 20,000 people were questioned for the survey, which was published March 9, 2020.

Currently, more than 4,000 people globally had died from coronavirus and over 110,000 people have been infected worldwide. In the U.S., more than 700 people have been infected with COVID-19—another name for the new coronavirus—and at least 22 Americans died from it.

Only 3 percent of respondents said coronavirus posed "no threat at all" to the United States. 7 percent responded "don't know" and 22 percent of people polled said COVID-19 was a minimal threat.
