2020 Presidential Election
Sanders and Bloomberg Are New York's Favorites
As far as New Yorkers are concerned, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg are the most viable Democratic candidates to take on President Donald Trump, according to a poll by Siena College Research Institute. In third place was former Vice President Joe Biden. The study questioned 315 New York residents who self-identify as Democrats.
“Bloomberg leads in New York City with Sanders second, while Sanders leads upstate and in the downstate suburbs, where Bloomberg finishes third in both,” Steve Greenberg, the Siena poll spokesman, revealed. “Bernie is trouncing with younger voters and Mike has a commanding lead with older voters. Men side with Bernie, while women lean toward Mike.”
Of the New York Democrats who plan to vote in the April 28 primary, 25 percent supported Sanders and 21 backed Bloomberg. 13 percent said they would stand behind Biden and 11 percent said they would nominate Senator Elizabeth Warren. With 9 percent each, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Senator Amy Klobuchar fell at the bottom of the list.
